Verizon brings VoIP to Switzerland, introduces new UC&C and service guarantees

08.12.2010

Seeing growing demand from multi-site European businesses that have offices in Switzerland, Verizon Business (NYSE: VZ)  is bringing its VoIP portfolio to the region--the 11th country served by its VoIP services.

Large and medium-sized businesses that either reside in Switzerland or MNCs that have sites there will be able to take advantage of Verizon Business` VoIP portfolio (Hosted IP Centrex, IP Trunking and IP Integrated Access). Users can leverage Verizon`s two-way VoIP services for both national and international calling.

Switzerland-based businesses can leverage the similar product features and services already available in its 10 country European VoIP footprint. By leveraging a cloud service model, Verizon said it could also make UC&C software and service available on a managed basis.

"We`ve definitely seen a lot of interest from a lot of global enterprises in Europe that have locations in Switzerland," said Karen Gergelyi, Product Marketing Manager for Global VoIP Trunking Services for Verizon Business. "This is a nice complement to our solution by being able to offer the solution in Switzerland."

In addition to its bringing its VoIP service into Switzerland, Verizon has introduced two other enhancements in its overall VoIP portfolio, including enhanced SLAs and CPE certification.

With the enhanced SLA that`s applicable to both new and existing VoIP customers, Verizon Business addresses a couple of key voice quality metrics. For one, Verizon increased its Mean Opinion Score from 3.8 to 4.0 and a new four-hour Mean Time to Repair metric.

In tandem with increasing voice quality metrics, Verizon Business also certified Cisco`s new VoIP and UC&C technologies to work with its IP Trunking services. Gergelyi said that by completing this certification "any customer that implements the new Cisco equipment won`t have to go through interoperability process."

Making this network extension and new improvements did take some work, however, for Verizon. "There was significant investment not only in the infrastructure, including network switches and Session Border Controllers, but also significant IT development to ensure that you could provision and build in local currency."
