Now that it`s a private company, Cox may no longer be shackled to Wall Street`s near-term results drive, but it did reveal at this week`s Future of Cable Business Services that it is confident it will reach its $1 billion revenue goal in 2010. "We will definitely hit $1 billion in 2010," predicted Cox Business vice president Phil Meeks, during the morning keynote.
And while the down economy did hold it back a bit in 2009 especially in its Las Vegas, Phoenix and Orange County, Calif. markets, Meeks said that 2010 will be an improvement over the mid-teen growth it saw in 2009.
Meeks believes that healthcare and wireless backhaul are two opportunities that will be big revenue drivers for Cox Business and enable it to not only reach $1 billion in revenues in 2009, but $2 billion in the next six years. On the healthcare side, Cox Business has won a number of healthcare customers including Integris Health of Oklahoma City and Gateway Healthcare of Rhode Island--both are leveraging the Ethernet-based "MedNet" strategy to empower everything from IP voice and video consultations.
No less compelling is wireless backhaul. Similar to the strategy taken by Qwest Communications, Cox has been building out multi-purpose fiber networks that simultaneously target both wireless backhaul and business opportunities that lie along the path the fiber resides.
