AT&T's wireless receiver lets U-verse subs watch video anywhere in house

26.10.2011

AT&T (NYSE: T) is on its way to helping solve the home wiring issue that plagues many service providers in rolling out triple play services over a home network with its new U-verse TV Wireless Receiver.

With the new product, U-verse IPTV customers can set up their TV wherever they want it without having to find or install an Ethernet gateway to get service.

This means that a user could watch TV in rooms in their house or apartment that are not usually wired for TV such as an outdoor covered patio. In addition, the U-verse Wireless Receiver eliminates the need for dedicated U-verse receivers in less used room.

A subscriber`s TV content will be delivered from the wireless access point near the residential gateway over in-home WiFi to the Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) U-verse Wireless Receiver. The device can deliver both SD and HD programming to multiple receivers that have "built-in" or integrated WiFi.

Beginning at the end of October, users can purchase the U-verse Wireless Receiver for a one-time fee of $49 and a standard $7 per month receiver rental fee.
