Two million IPTV customers can`t be wrong for going with AT&T. AT&T revealed today during the UBS 37th Annual Global Media and Communications Conference that two million customers subscribe to its U-Verse IPTV service.
By reaching the 2 million subscriber mark, AT&T is on track to reach 200,000 new subscriber additions for Q4 09. Since 2008, the ILEC has brought on one million customers in 22 states. This comes after AT&T added 240,000 new U-Verse TV customers in Q3 09, an increase from the 232,000 it added in Q3 2008.
Fellow RBOC Verizon, while not delivering IPTV but rather a hybrid IP/RF video product, said yesterday that it`s on track to reach its one million subscriber addition goal for 2009 for FiOS TV, meaning it would add 200,000 subscribers for Q4 09.
In addition, AT&T launched its new U-Verse High Speed Internet Max service, which will deliver 24 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream. Initially available in its Austin, San Antonio and St. Louis markets, AT&T will expand the availability of the service to other U-Verse markets. At a relatively competitive $65 a month price, the Internet Max service can be bundled with U-Verse TV, wireless service and U-Verse voice.
"This has been an outstanding year for U-verse, and we`re glad that customers are responding to the value, choice and simplicity we`re adding to this service," said Ralph de la Vega, chief executive officer of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets during the conference. "Customers love that they can get a complete and integrated quad-play of services with U-verse, and that`s why we continue to enhance our entire bundle with new apps and more broadband choices. We`ve shown what we can do with our advanced IP platform, and we`re not done yet."
And building new data bundled service offerings with incentives will be key for AT&T as the cable operators continue to aggressively target all of the RBOC territories with enhanced DOCSIS 3.0 services.
