Sprint files four more VoIP lawsuits

28.01.2008

Emboldened by their success suing Vonage for patent infringement, traditional telcos are moving onto more lawsuit targets. Verizon Communications last week sued Cox Communications, alleging violation of eight patents, and now Sprint Nextel is suing four more companies--Paetec Holding, Nuvox, Broadvox Holdings and Big River Telephone Company--for infringing on multiple patents. Vonage settled lawsuits against it from Verizon, Sprint and AT&T, and Cox no doubt has the financial backing to fight a legal battle, but Sprint is going after relatively small competitive carriers. How will they handle the strain of fighting these lawsuits?
