Cable industry pioneer Bill Bresnan passes away

30.11.2009

Bill Bresnan, the cable industry pioneer who founded Bresnan Communications, died at 75 after a battle with cancer. The announcement of his passing came just as Bresnan Communications promoted Jeff Demond--a 24-year Bresnan veteran--from president to CEO of the cable company. In that transition process, Bresnan`s founder Bill Bresnan was set to become the chairman of the cable company.

What has often stuck out about Bresnan Communications, which currently has about 320,000 subscribers in the Western U.S., is its willingness to take on new technology innovations, including OpenTV`s advertising management system. This dedication to network innovation was rooted in company founder Bill Bresnan, who was an early advocate of bringing fiber architectures to the cable industry. His commitment to network innovations was reflected in his work with the National Cable & Telecommunications (NCTA) where he once served as chairman and as a member for 35 years.

But his innovation did not stop with technology. Bresnan not only served as a mentor to other up and coming cable executives, including Demond, he was also a champion of workplace diversity.
